About Laura

Curator's notes
  • 169 cm, athletic
  • Sun-lightened light brown hair, green eyes
  • Twenty-five, warm and energetic
  • Horse riding, skiing, travel in Italy
  • Lives in Paddington

Laura still has outdoor colour in her face in October. She returns from every winter with a skier's glow and from every summer with a new Italian town to recommend, and she has the energy of someone who would sooner spend a free morning on horseback than sleep late. She is twenty-five and lives in Paddington, close enough to Hyde Park to hear the riders on Rotten Row before breakfast.

In person she is 169 cm and athletic, with long light brown hair lightened by the sun and green eyes that seem to change shade with the weather. Her style is practical elegance: a good trench coat, a simple dress beneath it, and shoes she can walk in until she decides not to.

Adventurous is the obvious word for her, but warm is the more useful one. Laura is interested in people, and she asks about your travels with real curiosity because she is already planning her next trip. She speaks English, fluently and a little too fast when describing a mountain, and she will trade ski stories for business stories and call it a fair exchange.

For dinner she heads to Daphne's on Draycott Avenue, the long-running Chelsea Italian whose conservatory room feels like a trattoria that someone with taste has quietly improved. She orders for two if you let her, suggests a wine from a region she has explored, and walks back with you through the garden squares towards your hotel, pointing out which of the white houses she would buy if the evening went on forever.

Laura is filed under SW3 for Chelsea dinners and moves across Kensington with ease. Booking takes one message.

After hours · Laura

An evening with Laura

Laura's perfect evening begins with fresh air, even in London. She would meet you at Kensington Gardens for a brisk loop past the Round Pond while the light fades, describing the last mountain she skied and the next one she means to. Coats are with the cloakroom at Daphne's by half past seven; she orders a spritz, something grilled and a pasta to share.

After dinner she would sooner take a taxi back to the hotel than find a bar, because good conversation travels better than a loud room. There she is easy company, warm and curious, as happy to look through photographs from your last trip as to show you hers. The evening closes without fuss and with the name of a hotel in the Dolomites you will probably end up booking.

In Laura's words

Not Rome. Begin somewhere small in the north, Lake Orta perhaps, then work towards the famous places once you know how to eat properly.

For as long as I can remember. Horses taught me patience and good posture, which also help at long dinners.

Brisk start, slow finish. Walk somewhere first, then sit down for a long time with very good food.
